At Last...

Most people are shocked to hear that we co-slept (well, one of us at a time, anyway) with our then 3 year old for pretty much her entire life, except for the first nine months. Which is weird, because usually it's kind of the other way around. It partly had to do with her sleep disorder/sensory processing disorder and her developmental delays.  When she was an infant, we would put her in one of those infant swing things, where she would doze for hours and hours in blissful sleep.  We were thrilled!  If only everything could be so easy!  She hated sleeping any other way.  What we didn't realize at the time that this was the first sign of her SPD, the fact that swinging in that swing calmed her so thoroughly and instantaneously.  We just thought we lucked out in the infant sleeping department. For the record, Mr. P hated the infant swing we had gotten as a gift.  It went unused in a corner for months. Then, little lady grew too big for the d...

Why Obamacare Sucks

I'll let you in on a little secret, I DO NOT LIKE the Affordable Care Act.  I only called it Obamacare in the title because I wanted people to get confused for a second.  "Wait, what, Gina the liberal Democrat has a problem with health care coverage for many?" And yes, Virginia, I do have a problem with health coverage for many. Because dammit, it isn't health coverage for ALL.  I want a freaking single-payer system and I want it now.  I want all the idiotic Republicans who keep talking shit about the Affordable Care act to SHUT UP and face the fact that it is essentially a Republican blueprint for healthcare.  I remember a few summers ago when the Democrats were going to try to push a single-payer bill through Congress before the recess and I knew, I just knew, that they were going to blow it.  That because the Democratic party does not vote in lockstep with each other, they would wind up killing their own bill.  And sure enough, they did, a...

He Married Up, For Sure

Despite being a wonderful father in all other respects, my husband has a blind spot when it comes to dressing my daughter and getting her ready to go somewhere.  He claims that it is difficult.  He claims that he has no idea how to put her hair in a simple ponytail.  And, if recent events are any indication, he seems to think that pants are up for debate. As for picking an outfit, I have two main drawers for her clothing.  One has shirts, and the other, shockingly, has bottoms.  Many of them are coordinating outfits, but in a pinch, is it really that hard to look at two items of clothing and see if they match in coloring?  The way he talks about it, it is indeed rocket science to pick out matching and weather-appropriate clothing. He also refuses to attempt to comb her hair (which is fine and long) and make any attempt at putting it into even the simplest of styles.  My God man, it is 2013, there are entire websites created to teach people how to d...

10 Minute Blogging

All right, I've got ten minutes before I have to pick my daughter up from preschool. Let's see, what's going on?  Not too much different than previously, just even more running around since the period between September and the beginning of January always seems to be packed with too much to do and not enough time to do it. My son's enrichment program will be going to Europe at the beginning of June, so we've got that to look forward to, as one of us is required to accompany him since he is only 11.  When he turns 12, this will no longer be the case, so we have only this trip to get through before we won't have to spend thousands of dollars to fund ourselves.  Our son is subsidized heavily, the chaperone is not.   But I am determined that he will not miss this trip, as excursions like this are exactly why I wanted to homeschool. I'm looking for a part time job, and not even Disneyland wants to hire me.  That kind of hurts as they are very fond of h...

Good Lord, Five Weeks?

If you had asked me how long it had been since I posted something on here, I would never have guessed it was five weeks ago.  Not that I have been doing anything supremely productive with my time, same crap different day type of stuff. During my unintentional hiatus, I attended a party.  A party thrown by experienced party-throwers, who had a kitchen to die for which includes a sink with a faucet that turns on with foot pedals underneath the cabinet (like hospital sinks) and said faucet that has LED lights inside of it.  Not to mention a six burner Viking range and a dining room table that comfortably fits twelve. Anyhoo, my kitchen envy is not the point here.  As the party was winding down, I was speaking with a fellow party attendee who I consider an acquaintance. The hostess was walking around to the different conversational clusters and asking if anyone would like coffee or tea. At first I answered in the affirmative for the tea, but then the ...

This and That

- I know, I KNOW the brick is just a brick, but sometimes I just like to have some fun when I'm writing something.  I guess that's bad, because I'm sorry that anyone thought that I was worried about a stolen brick. - Although, anything could happen, amirite? -The weather here is insanely tropical, it is 10PM and 82 degrees outside with the humidity at 60%.  That is WRONG in so many ways.  I got out of the car to pick up Babygirl today and the sun was actually painful on my arms. - It seems today I am enamored of ALL CAPS.  I DON'T KNOW WHY. -Babygirl just got referred to another Occupational Therapist for what is termed "Feeding Therapy" because girlfriend has food issues.  Apparently she will not tolerate mixed textures and anything "wet" that isn't a liquid.  Such as watermelon.  She hates watermelon, which is just sort of sad.  So it goes well beyond your normal toddler pickiness.  Sigh.  Yet another therapy appointment t...

The Telltale Brick

Have I ever told you about the time Hubba-hubba and I took a mini-tour of the East Coast? It was sometime around 1996 and I can say that I unreservedly adore the Smithsonian, Valley Forge National Monument, Salem, and the state of Maine in its entirety.  The rest, meh.  Maybe if the leaves had turned nicely, but supposedly it was a bad year for that.  Sorry all you EC'ers.  I still love YOU, though.  I'm not holding your place of residence against you.  Er, trying not to, anyway. Which brings me to Salem, Massachusetts.  We were traveling around Halloween, as we always find that travel during October is pretty much optimal for just about everything.  We parked at the first place we could find that didn't charge for parking, which was somewhere off the main drag and next to a dilapidated church of unknown denomination.  Maybe it was Catholic?  Anyway, we went and visited the house of the Seven Gables, wandered around the bay fr...
