10 Minute Blogging

All right, I've got ten minutes before I have to pick my daughter up from preschool. Let's see, what's going on?  Not too much different than previously, just even more running around since the period between September and the beginning of January always seems to be packed with too much to do and not enough time to do it. My son's enrichment program will be going to Europe at the beginning of June, so we've got that to look forward to, as one of us is required to accompany him since he is only 11.  When he turns 12, this will no longer be the case, so we have only this trip to get through before we won't have to spend thousands of dollars to fund ourselves.  Our son is subsidized heavily, the chaperone is not.   But I am determined that he will not miss this trip, as excursions like this are exactly why I wanted to homeschool. I'm looking for a part time job, and not even Disneyland wants to hire me.  That kind of hurts as they are very fond of h...

Good Lord, Five Weeks?

If you had asked me how long it had been since I posted something on here, I would never have guessed it was five weeks ago.  Not that I have been doing anything supremely productive with my time, same crap different day type of stuff. During my unintentional hiatus, I attended a party.  A party thrown by experienced party-throwers, who had a kitchen to die for which includes a sink with a faucet that turns on with foot pedals underneath the cabinet (like hospital sinks) and said faucet that has LED lights inside of it.  Not to mention a six burner Viking range and a dining room table that comfortably fits twelve. Anyhoo, my kitchen envy is not the point here.  As the party was winding down, I was speaking with a fellow party attendee who I consider an acquaintance. The hostess was walking around to the different conversational clusters and asking if anyone would like coffee or tea. At first I answered in the affirmative for the tea, but then the ...

This and That

- I know, I KNOW the brick is just a brick, but sometimes I just like to have some fun when I'm writing something.  I guess that's bad, because I'm sorry that anyone thought that I was worried about a stolen brick. - Although, anything could happen, amirite? -The weather here is insanely tropical, it is 10PM and 82 degrees outside with the humidity at 60%.  That is WRONG in so many ways.  I got out of the car to pick up Babygirl today and the sun was actually painful on my arms. - It seems today I am enamored of ALL CAPS.  I DON'T KNOW WHY. -Babygirl just got referred to another Occupational Therapist for what is termed "Feeding Therapy" because girlfriend has food issues.  Apparently she will not tolerate mixed textures and anything "wet" that isn't a liquid.  Such as watermelon.  She hates watermelon, which is just sort of sad.  So it goes well beyond your normal toddler pickiness.  Sigh.  Yet another therapy appointment t...

The Telltale Brick

Have I ever told you about the time Hubba-hubba and I took a mini-tour of the East Coast? It was sometime around 1996 and I can say that I unreservedly adore the Smithsonian, Valley Forge National Monument, Salem, and the state of Maine in its entirety.  The rest, meh.  Maybe if the leaves had turned nicely, but supposedly it was a bad year for that.  Sorry all you EC'ers.  I still love YOU, though.  I'm not holding your place of residence against you.  Er, trying not to, anyway. Which brings me to Salem, Massachusetts.  We were traveling around Halloween, as we always find that travel during October is pretty much optimal for just about everything.  We parked at the first place we could find that didn't charge for parking, which was somewhere off the main drag and next to a dilapidated church of unknown denomination.  Maybe it was Catholic?  Anyway, we went and visited the house of the Seven Gables, wandered around the bay fr...

Not My Idea of a Vacation

I was talking to one of our neighbors yesterday. She and her family had been on vacation for a week or so, and although I knew they were gone, I didn't know where. I asked if they had enjoyed their vacation, and she said, oh yes, but it was so hot where they went that they could only swim in the pool at night.  Oh, that is a bummer, I said. She then went on to explain that they were sharing a timeshare condo with another couple who have children around their daughter's age. I know this other family, they used to live down the street until their house was foreclosed upon and they obviously had to move somewhere else. That somewhere else happened to be not too far from here and so both of the families hang out together from time to time. I've never been too big a fan of the matriarch of the family that had to move.  She has always struck me as a fairly bitter person.  I don't think I have ever seen her give a smile that reaches her eyes.  I always said hell...

Out of Breath...

Well, the surgery was yesterday and it went very well indeed. We got the first surgery of the day, hello pre-op at 6:30AM!  The whole pre-op thing went faster than the CT stuff, probably because they were able to put in her IV after she was under as they used gas anesthetic. It turned out to be a dermoid cyst, which is primarily congenital.  The vast majority of these are benign, and this one didn't have any signs to say that it might not be.  Although of course, they will send a specimen to biopsy just in case. The incision is about an inch, there are internal stitches that she can't really mess with, and Babygirl reports no pain.  So huzzah! I did read some stuff about children "regressing" in behavior after being anesthetized for a longer period of time, and I have to say that for her, it is somewhat true.  Although who knows the exact reason, it could be just stress, shock, pain, or any number of combinations of those things. Interestingly enough...

Breathing...

I want to start off by saying a big thank you to my medical professional bloggy buddy who wae so kind and even offered to find second opinions in my area, even though they are pretty much across the country! Marvel, I am so lucky to have you. Well, Tuesday morning dawned earlier than I wanted it to, as Babygirl decided to wake up fairly early at 6AM. Even though her bedtime is extremely scheduled and pretty much never varies, her wake up time is variable.  I had been hoping she would wake up later as she was not allowed to eat anything until after the CT scan, and I didn't want to fight a three year old who wouldn't be able to understand why Mommy couldn't give her breakfast. Turns out she was happy she wasn't going to school, and was agreeable to the not eating thing.  Actually, she only had about four ounces of ice water from the time she woke up to the time we left for the hospital, which was at 8:30AM. Babygirl, of course, had no idea of what was going to h...
