10 Minute Blogging

All right, I've got ten minutes before I have to pick my daughter up from preschool.

Let's see, what's going on?  Not too much different than previously, just even more running around since the period between September and the beginning of January always seems to be packed with too much to do and not enough time to do it.

My son's enrichment program will be going to Europe at the beginning of June, so we've got that to look forward to, as one of us is required to accompany him since he is only 11.  When he turns 12, this will no longer be the case, so we have only this trip to get through before we won't have to spend thousands of dollars to fund ourselves.  Our son is subsidized heavily, the chaperone is not.   But I am determined that he will not miss this trip, as excursions like this are exactly why I wanted to homeschool.

I'm looking for a part time job, and not even Disneyland wants to hire me.  That kind of hurts as they are very fond of hiring high school students. I guess a college-educated mom who has been out of the workforce for ten years just isn't what they are looking for.  I might form some sort of union or something.  I mean, I didn't even make it to the interview, for goodness sakes.  AND I have a reference from someone who currently works full time for them.  That's harsh Disneyland, harsh.

Another problem is that I am very limited in my schedule, but my husband seems to think everyone is going to jump at the chance to hire me.  Uh, I have a news flash for him, they want people who can work whenever THEY want them to, not someone who can only work weekends and one day out of the regular week.

I've got birthday parties galore (not my own) and Thanksgiving and oh my God I only have one minute left...

You do well in 10 minutes. It seems to take me that long to type this comment with all of my typos and pauses.

I know how you feel when other people tell you to go get a job because "Hey! You're really good at so and so!" If only it were that simple.

If I had a dollar for every time someone said,"You're such a great writer. You should get a job at a magazine (or an ad agency, or a business writing their brochures or web presence stuff, or at a newspaper, or at a college teaching writing, etc) I wouldn't need to even think about a job.

This economy cannot support a luxury like me, a writer/editor. They merely do it all in house, using personnel they already have.

The next suggestion is always to "start my own business." Sigh. No thanks. I don't want to get into all that debt and all that baloney. All of that is SO EASY TO SAY. I'm sure anyone saying these things is trying to be complimentary and helpful. I'm just weary of hearing them.

I'm excited that you'll be going to Europe, even if you have to come up with the money. YAY!!!

Looking for work sucks. It's demoralizing as hell.

I hear ya, sister (on the job front, that is). So far, ALL I can find is p/t work. It's such a "who you know game," but even that isn't a guarantee. I mean, you have someone on the inside at Mouseworld and even then…nada. Often times, employers are looking for "young and cheap" when they post job openings. I'm using my network to find freelance gigs, and one is looking promising. If I get in, I'll see what's what in terms of their needs and forward your name if you want to do something like that.

@AC- You flatter me, sir.

@Nance- I would LOVE to start my own business. Now, if I had any idea as to how to do that...

@J- It probably won't be me! I need to stay home and take care of the daughter.

@Ted- Awww Ted, you are a gem. I appreciate the offer, I truly do. I'm game for anything, and I won't hold you to it!
