Ah Yes, That's What I Was Supposed to Do

Answer the Friday Poll!

Well, to those of you who guessed that I am pregnant, pat yourselves on the back and eat a chocolate for me, because that is right.

To say that this was a bit of a surprise is, well, a bit of an understatement. We had technically been "trying" since I miscarried in the summer of 2007 (almost two years ago, people!) and I had pretty much given up the thought that I would ever get pregnant again.

I thought that with my advancing age and my various health issues that having another baby was pretty much out of the picture. I was getting ready to tell Hubba-hubba that this was IT, that I was no longer "trying" because the ups and downs were getting to be too much for me.

And, lo and behold, there were the two lines on March 4. I'm due on November 12, but I have the feeling it will be a bit earlier than that.

I will be honest with you guys, I have some nervousness at the thought of having a SEVEN year gap in between children. I am worried about how this will affect my beloved Mr. P. I am hoping for the best, but how do I know he isn't going to feel alienated, or in some way betrayed? That is my biggest fear. Although it probably shouldn't be, because he is a wonderful, loving little boy who I know would make a great big brother.

But, I am a worrier. That's what I do.

Anybody got any heartwarming stories about the large age gap between their kids and how it all worked out fine? Sooner than when they are in their 30's and 40's? Because I get that a lot, that they will hardly know each other growing up, and it won't be until waaay later that they are even friends.

Because I kind of need some reassurances right now.

We had a six year gap. They were fine all through it and are good friends.

Gina, my sisters are 9 and 11 years older than me. In some ways it was like having three mothers while I was growing up. I am very close to both of them -- our relationship has changed over the years as I've gotten older and am not so much the "baby sister" any more.

I would have the same concerns as you, but chances are good that Mr P will adjust just fine and will have a terrific relationship with the new addition.

Congratulations again!

Autumn was born in November, I hope you have a smart, sassy one just like her. My kids have a 4-5 year gap between youngest to oldest. With Autumn, I would have preferred a gap, she was a handful. They won't be in the same school together, they will have different experiences, but still share the bond of siblings. You guys provide a loving home, I've no doubt your children will be just fine :) Much to you sister. xoxo

My dad and his younger sisters are 6 and 8 years apart, they were as thick as thieves growing up, according to my grandmother...

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats! I am glad I was right. I am sure that they will do fine together no matter what the age gap. There is never a perfect age gap when it comes to kids, you just gotta deal with what you get. I am loving that this time around I will actually be able to have two little helpers rather that two small and needy children. Sometimes I think back and wonder why I thought it was such a good idea to have them so close together, not that Harry was exactly planned.

Congratulations, Gina!

I haven't seen you around Pole Hill lately (understandably), so you may not know that I have a new girlfriend. I'm bringing her up here because her daughters are 10 and 2. Amanda and Lucy have a great relationship. Jenn has her own blog where she writes about them a lot; you should get to know her.

OMG...great news. Congrats!
I have 3 "only" children over here. They get along famously and always did. There is 5 years between the youngest and middle, 8 years between middle and oldest and 12 years between the youngest and oldest. Confused yet? I am. Heh. Anywho..don't sweat the small stuff. Just enjoy the ride! ;)

I can't reassure you as mine are 3 1/2 years apart, but all my best vibes are heading your way Gina and family!

By the way, did you know that your paying gig doesn't seem to work with Firefox anymore? Unless it's an issue on my end, I haven't been able to get on there in a week or so.

Yay for you and your household! Very exciting.

Mine are only 4.5 years apart but I still worried about the same thing. I am now here to say the more space between them, the better. Mr. P will be awesome, and will probably feel less rivalry than if his new baby was closer to his age.

Please have the baby on Veteran's Day, November 11. That's my birthday.

Well, my brother and I are only 2 years apart and had a lot of issues when we were young. Ted was pretty close with his eldest brother when he was young, not so much the brother who is closer to his own age.

All I can say is that you should make sure to find time for Mr. P alone, even if it's just one day a week special time that he can look forward to. And then hope for the best. You can't make things happen, dang it, just hope for the best.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Populist rage can ONLY mean pregnancy! I knew it, but kept silent - only peering through my bloglines reader - until you broke the news yourself!!

Mucho congratuloso!!

Blessing for a smooth and uneventful pregnancy. Lil Man and Lil One are 6 years apart. We've had absolutely no problems and I'm glad for the age difference. They are at completely different stage so there's no competition or jealousy.

Congrats! Mine are 5 years apart and know each other very well, especially how to push each others buttons. There are the rare sweet moments between brother and sister that touch my heart too. This is wonderful news.

My son is 7 years older than his brother and 9 years older than his sister and they still fight, whine and tattle on each other as if they were only 1 year apart each.

Siblings are siblings... no matter what the gap ;o)
