Friday Poll

I like my food bland.

I don't know why, as we joke that my mother has burnt out whatever taste buds she might have once had with all the hot foods she enjoys. I think she was happiest when she was in China, which had lots of spicy stuff for her to sample.

As for me, Dijon mustard is enough to make my eyes start watering. Spicy food really affects me physically, and I don't like the sensation. I avoid spicy food like the plague, but don't confuse spicy with flavorful. I should have been born British or something.

Do you like spicy foods?

I adore spicy foods! The spicer the better. Hot spicy is good too.

My favourite foods are Indian and Mexican. But my comfort food is fresh white bread with butter.

It gives me wicked bad heartburn so I tend to avoid it. Some foods I do like with a little kick and just make sure to take something in advance.

Not "competition spicy", like some people who have to be in pain to enjoy it. I still want the spice to also have flavor.

I enjoy spicy foods, probably medium spicy. I'm 3/4's Spanish, so if I didn't, they'd probably revoke my nationality.

I like mildly spicy. Enough to have a little kick, not enough to make me cry :)

Like Awesome mom, I like it, but it doesn't like me, so I try to avoid anything that gives me more than an itty-bitty zing. I never could quite understand those chili cook-offs where folks make it so hot that one cannot even taste it (if it's edible at all).

It's been awhile since I've had a peek at your blog, Gina. It's nice catching up :)

love curries, flavour plus heat, with something cool to balance...

I love the spicy! Not too much pain, but just a little bit is enjoyable for me. Although I am a big fan of flavorful spicy. I don't want it hot for the sake of it being hot.

Yes, yes I do.

I love spicy foods, especially Mexican, but it's been catching up with me the last several years. I probably need to give up the hot stuff altogether, but it's almost like an addiction.

When I say "affects me physically" it isn't due to heartburn, it's the way that it makes my head and tongue feel while I'm eating it.

I have actually never had heartburn in my life.

Which, now that I've said that, will ensure that I will have killer heartburn in the near future.

The spicier, the better! I have friends of various Asian backgrounds, and they all try to stump me with their "no one can handle this one" dishes. I win every time.

I like hot, but not drastically hot. I like flavor of spices more than heat. :) My mom didn't have many taste buds, I don't think, so she liked her food HOT. So hot her face would turn red and her ears would burn and her nose and eyes would run. I was an adult before I discovered that curry didn't have to hurt.

So maybe you just have more than the average number of taste buds, and are thus more sensitive to heat?

I like food to taste like something, and I like my coffee to taste like strong coffee instead of dark water. And if I have to have tea, if better have flavor.
