Music Monday and Randomness

Well, we got a new washing machine, and yes, Mrs. G, it is indeed one of those fancy-schmancy front loaders. To be honest, I wanted this new washing machine to perhaps induce some sort of enthusiasm on my part for the doing of laundry. I was hoping that having a really nice, new machine that washes my clothes fabulously (which it does, I would highly recommend the Maytag Neptune to anybody) would somehow change my loathing and dread.

But, to hardly anyone's suprise, it didn't.

Although we did shop at a warehouse store that happened to also be selling pay washing machines, the kind that are in laundromats. I pointed them out to the very bored Mr. P, who was enthralled at the idea of inserting four quarters every time we want to wash our clothes. "Let's get this, Mommy! Please, can we get this one?" I laughed and said, "And pay myself every time to do the wash? I don't think so!"

Then I got to thinking, and it might actually not be a bad idea. I mean, we could have a "laundry fund" wherein I save all the quarters and we use the money to go on vacation or something. Whaddaya think?

And in a laundry-related video, I present this gem from David Bowie. I had thought of doing "Blue Jean" instead, but I've always liked "Fashion" better. Beep beep!

Hi Gina,

The older Maytag Neptunes, such as the 2000 Stackers, MAH3000, MAH4000 and the MAH5500A series had some issues which I am sure Maytag has corrected these issues in the newer machines...

There are thousands who have been burnt by the door latch wax motor failure. What happens is the machine will stop spinning because the door latch will fail to lock. Deep inside it is caused by the mechanism that locks the door. The wax motor will draw too much current and damage the control board by burning a resistor (R11) and a triac (Q6).

However, if Neptune owners know to replace the door latch wax motor they can prevent the control board failure from happening. Please tell everyone you know about this important fact.

The older Neptune’s also have a couple additional issues such as the moldy door boot and the reliability of the motor / motor control board. All three of these issues were involved in the class action lawsuit a couple of years ago. See http://www.neptunewaxmotor.com for more Neptune information.

In addition, I just now started offering a bearing and seal kit for the Neptunes because when the bearings fail Maytag wants you to replace the whole outer tub for a service quote of around $900 or so. Why replace the whole outer tub? Just replace the worn bearings and 12002022 seal… See http://www.neptunebearing.com for the Neptune bearing kit information.

The older Neptunes run great once you take care of some small details...

Well, let's hear it for those older Neptunes. Unfortunately, though, I have no repair kits to offer.

OH MY GAWD! I want one! I could start a shoe fund and mummy can do washing for shoes...

that would motivate me to attack that mountain that never seems to decrease in my laundry room... I wonder if they have them in Australia..

I actually pondered doing that very same thing when we were shopping for our front loader. Just an FYI with front loaders you really have to pack the clothing in to get them to clean the best. They just do not do too well with small loads.

I don't know if I wrote it wrong or something, but I got a NEW Neptune. We had a Kenmore Calypso or something like that, which I highly DON'T recommend.

Congrats on your NEW washer. ;)

Any day that starts with a little Bowie is a very good day indeed. Be it Blue Jean or Fashion.

I like "Fashion" better myself, but Bowie's career after Heroes has mostly been one long downhill slide.
