Not So Big Fish

Today, I'm going to talk about my fish.

Well, he's really Mr. P's fish, but I'm the one who has the relationship with him.

I know, you are shaking your head and saying to yourself, "This economic collapse has really driven Gina to the brink of insanity, hasn't it?"

And to some degree, you would be right.

But, I find that caring for this very pretty boy of ours gives me a bit of solace and comfort. Many moons ago, we moved him from Mr. P's bedroom into the kitchen. It just seemed like he was extremely bored in there, as Mr. P tends to spend most of his time out here in the living room. He is basically only in his room to go to bed and wake up. And I was an infrequent visitor to clean and put away laundry. So we decided that since the kitchen was a nice hub of activity, the fish would be less bored in there.

You may not believe me, but he actually will greet me in the morning by swimming vigorously around the front of his tank and wagging his tail. I'm not kidding, he will swing that backside of his back and forth, just like a dog. And yes, I baby talk to the fish. I call him a pretty boy, I accuse him of being nosy when I am cooking, and I fawn over him when I feed him every other day.

Maybe we should just get a dog.

Ohhh... look at the pretty boy! You want some food don't cha? Sit up! Come on, sit up for mama! Good boy!

I've never known a Beta to do much more then just sit there or try to kill another male. So I'm impressed you have gotten it to wag its tail. Perhaps the whole bored fish talk is true!

I love bettas! They are a lot of fun and have a lot of personality. I would stick with the fish, they shed less.

No. Keep the fish. Sounds like he would get jealous if you got a dog and would hate you forever if you got a CAT!!!

Maternal Mirth linked to you in her comment on my blog. I had a betta too, Ali. And she related to me. I loved her. Enjoy your fish. I completely understand.
