On Veeps

I was talking to Hubba-hubba yesterday and I asked him, "So, what do you think of McCain's VP pick?"

He replied that unfortunately, he thought that Sarah Palin would win the White House for McCain.

I was floored.

I mean, does McCain really think that just because he chose a woman that disgruntled Hillary fans will vote for him?

Because if I read her bio right, Palin stands for nothing that Clinton stands for. To vote for Palin (and thus, hello! McCain!) simply because she is a woman is just as wrong as not voting for Obama because he is black. Well, half, anyway, but for some people, that's enough.

There aren't any women stupid enough to fall for this type of blatant pandering.

Right?

I would not vote for him just because of him picking a woman, but if I liked what they stood for then I would.

Unfortunately..Hubba hubba does make a point.. I have talked with so many women online about the issue of Clinton NOT getting the nomination.. So many of them said.. well if she doesnt.. I am voting for mcain.. SIMPLY BECAUSE.. they didn't like Obama..I guess I am just a yellow dog democrat.. I am not going to switch parties just because of the sex of who is running.. She has ben quoted as saying.. she will continue the Republican economic policy (HELLO TRILLION DOOLLAR DEBT) and fight to overturn abortion rights.. even is cases of incest and rape..
besides.. she hunts.. what could POSSIBLY happen when a vice president goes hunting???

Yes, there are some Hillary supporters who find Sarah Palin appealing enough to vote for the GOP ticket. Mostly, they really hate Obama that much, and Palin is just an excuse.

More importantly, Palin shores up McCain's credibility with the religious right, which never has been particularly solid.

Unfortunately, I think stupidity is pro ERA, meaning men don't have the rights to it. Women can be just as stupid as men. So yeah, I think some women will vote for him now, that might not have before. Hopefully, that will be a small proportion of voters, and most undecided voters will look carefully at the issues, not the race or gender of the person running for office.

sigh. i don't think it will bring in ANY true Hillary supporters. it'll only allow those who were going to Spite Vote anyway to finally have a reason. i just put up a post about this over at the Dept.. a bit late, i know. but geeze...life, you know?

McCain's choice is political strategy, and I think he will do better for it than he would had he picked Romney or some other guy. Similarly, Obama's choice in Biden is political strategy--why else would someone who was campaigning on "Change" pick a tool like Biden, a quintessential Beltway insider with the foreign policy cred Obama lacks.

This is politics, baby. It's all about getting elected.

As disgusting as it is there are women out there who will simply vote for Palin because she is a woman. It's beyond reason, so I've stopped trying to make sense of it. I'm sooooo with you! Palin ain't all that. Her environmental views are wack. I'm sorry to put it so bluntly, but they are.

Let's hope not.

Right. Unfortunately, thousands and thousands of evangelicals WILL vote for McCain simply because his VP is a Christian with extreme right values.
